Malta - 1975. Sean Toothe, an emaciated kid, holds onto his dying mother's hand as she exhorts him to look after his five-year old brother after she's gone. The kid's fourteen-years old and with his mother gone, he's under the "care" of his brutal step-father. Making his colourful escape from the island, he turns his back on the life of hunger and beatings and with the arrogance of youth, easily forgets the promise he'd made.
