Carob syrup was traditionally used as a cough syrup, a practice which continues to this day in the treatment of coughs and sore throats due to its expectorant and antioxidant properties. A teaspoon of syrup is diluted in a glass of hot water, often mixed with honey, and used as a natural remedy.
