The coin was issued to with the intention to create a new mindset and promote the respect of the environment by tourists,
Sustainable tourism is the concept of visiting a place as a tourist and trying to make only a positive impact on the environment, society and economy. There is now broad consensus that tourism development should be sustainable; however, the question of how to achieve this remains an object of debate.
The design depicts a stylized design and the legend "SUSTAINABLE TOURISM" at the top, At the bottom the country and year ("SAN MARINO 2017") and to the left the mark "R".
