Job Description

Whilst reporting to the Events Manager the Chef is responsible to prepare, season, and cook salads, soups, fish, meats, vegetables, desserts, or other foods, ensuring that the visiting guests will have a truly memorable experience. The Chef is responsible to inspect and maintain food preparation area safe and clean at all times. He/she is involved in the planning and development of recipes and menus and will assist in the procurement of food supplies.

Duties

• Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure conformance to safe and sanitary food-handling standards
• Prepare and cook various types of food, according to recipes, personal judgment and experience, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions
• Reduce stock wastage and ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and dating and rotating stock
• Collaborate with other personnel to plan and develop recipes or menus, taking into account such factors as costs, special event needs, the number of customers and seasonal availability of ingredients
• Comply with all employer guidelines and legal requirements for health and safety, hygiene, fire safety, licensing and employment
• Assist in the estimation of expected food consumption, requisition and procurement of supplies
• Work in close cooperation with front of hours and fellow back of house personnel to ensure a smooth running of the operation
• When necessary meet with customers to discuss menus for special occasions, such as weddings, parties, or banquets.
• Involved in the set up and maintenance of internal standard operating procedures to be followed by all front of house personnel

Work Schedule

• 40 hours a week split as required by venue opening hours
• From time to time should be able to dedicate time outside of normal service hours for additional meetings and/or other administrative tasks

Experience

• Minimum experience of 2 years in a similar position

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Must be an excellent team player
• Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
• Dedicated to food quality and control
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated and organised
• Strong knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation standards

Education and Training

• Ideal candidate would preferably have a diploma in food preparation
• Food Handlers Registration Card Category B
• European passport or working permission to work in Malta
